Add Sidebar to TwentyEleven Theme

This Monday WordPress released its new version, WP 3.2, with a brand new HTML5 default theme, Twenty Eleven.
But after activating this theme, you will find that the sidebar from pages and posts pages .i.e. single.php is missing,

This theme by default doesn't has sidebar in pages and posts.

To add them install Twenty Eleven Child Theme.
With this you will be able to add widgets on sinle.php or Posts page.

  2. Hi Niraj,

I installed your child theme and it worked ok. But I can't get my adsense to show up in the sidebar. It will show up in any of the footer areas but not the main sidebar or showcase sidebar. Should adsense be able to show up in the sidebars?

  8. First, thank you for posting such useful information for the public. It really is great to see people helping people. If you could help; I created a new folder inside my themes directory and put in the single.php and style.css files, but the sidebar shows at the bottom of all my posts. Am I missing some tweak?

  9. @EJ - we appreciate your concern and thanks for commenting in.

I am confused about where exactly you have created your folder is it inside wp-content / themes Folder

    or

is it inside wp-content / themes / twentyeleven folder

if it is out side the twentyeleven folder then you should copy paste the files in the twentyeleven theme folder and then give it a try.

    &

if the folder is inside the twentyeleven folder then copy paste the files outside i.e inside twentyeleven theme folder
If the problem still persists check the style.css file for any missing or wrong alignments...

    Thanks.

  10. Hi,

I was trying to create a page sidebar different from the blog sidebar. But being a complete noob in WP, I was not able to do that. Can you please help me to do that? Or can you please release a child theme, so that the page sidebar template uses a different sidebar with different sets of widgets?

Thank you in advanced. I’ve also posted this problem on WP Forum, but not having so much help there.

You ll just need to install the child theme (download from above link), after that installation your sidebar will be active on posts pages also. None of your customization will be changed, if it is changed then you can revert back anytime by deactivating the child theme

Sorry, but I am very new to all of this.

  25. I just downloaded the file and uploaded it from the add theme pages.  The only tweak required was to reload the header image. The whole process took about a minute.

THANK-YOU!!! This Could Not Have Been Easier!!!
